Walker Fire Protection was formerly Thos. Walker & Sons Pty Ltd which was established in 1894.

The company has a rich and long standing tradition of providing high quality specialist services to both industrial and commercial clients. Thos. Walker and Sons provided specialist services installations in mechanical services, and process piping and fire protection services into many significant locations in Victoria and throughout Australia. The company commenced providing fire protection services in 1968 and many high profile commercial buildings and industrial facilities have Walker Fire Protection systems as original installations:

Process pipe work

For more than 100 years the name of Thos Walkers & Sons was synonymous with quality process pipe work. A detailed understanding of the special needs of the power generation, petrochemical and paper making industries together with expertise gained over many years saw major installations at Loy Yang, Yallourn and Newport power stations, Shell Geelong Refinery, Australian Paper Mills; Maryville, Fairfield, Botany and Broadford, and the Royal Australian Navy Destroyers ‘Derwent’, ‘Stuart’ and ‘Parramatta’.

Walker Fire Protection

Industrial fire protection installations over past years have included, H.J.Heinz, Dow Chemicals, Hoechst, Robert Bosch, Ford Motor Company and Berger Paints, Cadbury Schweppes, Lindemans Wines, the landmark Australian National Animal Health Laboratory and the Government Aircraft Factory. Many of these projects had challenging specialist requirements demanding innovative design and installation techniques.

Retail and institutional facilities including Highpoint, Brandon Park, and Greensborough Plaza shopping centres, the Monash Medical Centre, and Monash and Latrobe Universities and Holmesglen TAFE all feature significant Walker Fire Protection systems.

Major commercial buildings including Melbourne Central Tower, 140 Williams Street, 1 Spring Street Shell House, 500 Bourke Street, 500 Collins Street, 385 Bourke Street and Bourke Place all have Walker Fire Protection systems as original installations.

In April 1990 Walker Fire Protection became a member of the A.G. Coombs Group of companies.

The company was established in Melbourne in 1945 by Allan George Coombs as a one-man plumbing business. In the sixty plus year history since, it has expanded and developed into the A.G. Coombs Group of companies and remains 100 per cent privately owned.
