Walker Fire Protection presents “Practical Fire Protection in Computer Rooms and Data Centres” at Fire Australia conference
11th Nov 2010
Today, Walker Fire Protection’s Geoff Flower delivered a presentation entitled “Practical Fire Protection in Computer Rooms and Data Centres” at a Fire Australia conference in the Gold Coast.
Despite Australian Standard AS2834 – Computer Accommodation having not been updated since 1995, fire protection technology used to protect data/computer room ICT systems has dramatically changed over the last 20 years.
Geoff provided the 180-strong audience with good practice approaches to the latest fire detection and protection for data facilities, including the importance of configuring, engineering, commissioning, inspecting, testing and maintenance.
A large number of tips were offered in relation to various aspects of fire protection in ICT computer rooms and data processing facilities, from an equipment, system and strategic point of view. Key topics ranged from smoke detection and wet pipe sprinklers, to pre-action sprinkler systems, gaseous suppression systems and passive fire protection.
For a summary of useful tips and information provided in the presentation, please refer to the Advisory Note on the A.G. Coombs website (http://www.agcoombs.com.au/resources/advisory_notes).
